作者認為柏拉圖對藝術的看法不妥。但在柏拉圖的觀點中，可以說藝術和他要建立的真理與烏托邦是對立的，本身就是有局限性的。柏拉圖認為藝術應被禁止再現罪惡性情、放蕩、粗魯，是否也可以說柏拉圖在批判摹仿性藝術滿足人低劣的那一部分？

在古希臘中常有和慾望有關的故事，如對於古希臘神話中常有的身體幻化，我認為是很好的例子，如宙斯的幻化、阿波羅幻化成月桂樹、牛頭怪，人馬獸也是其中之一，比如人馬獸是國王伊克西翁被宙斯所塑造的涅斐勒所生，最終半人馬被神所殺死。
喀戎是一個例外具有良好的品格，被徒弟赫拉克勒斯在追殺半人馬強盜時誤傷，喀戎本是不死之身，但赫拉克勒斯的箭浸泡了九頭蛇的血，喀戎感到疼痛最終放棄永生換取普羅米修斯的自由。
半人馬一般被當作野蠻，情慾，酗酒的代表，半人馬被認為是酒神的追隨者。人馬可以表示著上半身、人的理性駕馭不了下半身的慾望？最終人馬被神所殺死，喀戎也成為悲劇的代表，是否也意味著著這種野蠻、情慾的代名詞，在古希臘中它最終要被神懲罰？半人馬的故事對我們理解藝術尼採的酒神精神有什麼啟示？

Plato and Aristotle

柏拉圖和亞歷士多德藝術思想的比較：
柏拉圖認為，藝術只是完美、永恆的本原的一種有缺陷的再模仿，人們從這種虛假模仿中是得不到真理（美）的；亞歷士多德則肯定藝術家創作過程本身的作用，同時通過藝術作品對自然的模仿，人們更能深刻理解對象的美。
柏拉圖認為，因為來自「靈感」、「禮物」，藝術是有力量的，同時也是危險的。為了保護理想的公民和理想的社會，藝術等級不高，必須嚴格控制；亞歷士多德則認為藝術的模仿是一種教育和學習形式，是有價值的。
柏拉圖認為，藝術家的靈感來源於神性的啟發而不是一種技能，因此藝術家相比醫藥、建築、算術等需要技巧的一類人更低級；亞歷士多德則更為樂觀，認為這種創造藝術的能力隱含在「模仿」之中，同樣需要大量的學習和練習。
